Parenting with cancer when you have young children often means you’re helping kids to work through big feelings related to separation. Having to be away from your kids for medical appointments and treatment can create distress for both of you. This workshop will attend to the wounds you feel when you have to be separated from your children. We will also make a Companion Doll that you can leave with your children to help them feel connected to you while you are away.

This therapeutic art workshop utilizes guided meditations to explore areas of resilience, resources and strength that will be the foundation for the tangible support doll that will serve as a symbolic companion of security and comfort for children. We will build Companion Dolls from upcycled shirts (ideally one of your old unwashed shirts that smells like you), yarn*, modeling clay*, and small personalized trinkets to make your doll unique (*Bright Spot Network will send you these items after you register).

As part of the workshop, parents will be taught ways to modify the process so that you can create support dolls with your children.

Please double-check your calendar that this date and time works for you, as we have limited spaces and a special package of supplies to each participant.

All participants are warmly encouraged to submit their art to Oncology on Canvas a program of Lilly Oncology
